Rowan Radio Receives CBI National Finalist Honor

WGLS-FM earned finalist recognition in the College Broadcasters Incorporated National Student Production Awards on Wednesday.

Smoking: Unfiltered, a 30-minute documentary about nicotine addiction’s impact on college students, was named one of four finalists in the Best Documentary/Public Affairs radio category.

The documentary, produced by Christina Maxwell and Philip Blandino, previously received a second place nod in the Philadelphia Press Association’s Enterprise Reporting radio category last June.

Made in conjunction with WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Derek Jones’s Radio Production class, the documentary also placed in competitions by the Garden State Journalists Association and New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists.

College Broadcasters Incorporated honors the best in student radio and television each year at its annual convention.

The organization will announce the winners of the National Student Production Awards contest at its yearly convention, which begins on October 25 in Atlanta, Georgia.

WGLS-FM has won 215 national and regional awards since 1993.
