Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM won three programming and production awards in the 22nd annual Communicator Awards presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts on Wednesday.
History Of WGLS-FM Documentary Series Podcasts Now Available
“Fifty Years and Counting: An Oral History of WGLS-FM”, a four-part documentary on the station’s history is now available on the WGLS-FM website.
The documentary, split into four 30-minute parts, explores the station’s humble beginnings in 1964 to its rise as one of the nation’s most decorated college radio stations through assistance from scholars, students, and industry professionals.
WGLS-FM To Air Four-Part Series On Station History
Beginning on Friday, October 16 at 5:30 p.m., Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM will air “Fifty Years and Counting: An Oral History of WGLS-FM”, a four-part documentary on the station’s history.
The documentary, split into four 30-minute parts, explores the station’s humble beginnings in 1964 to its rise as one of the nation’s most decorated college radio stations through assistance from scholars, students, and industry professionals.

Rowan Radio salutes 50 years of operation at the WGLS-FM 50th Anniversary Celebration, which will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 6 p.m. in Rowan University’s Eynon Ballroom.
Throughout the evening, we will celebrate and pay homage to those who have helped turn Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM into one of nation’s top college radio stations.
Plus, the 2014 WGLS-FM Hall of Fame class will be honored for their contributions and service to WGLS-FM and to the Glassboro State College and Rowan University community.

WGLS-FM Educational Forum Show From 1965 Discovered
Thanks to a donation from Glassboro State College graduate Lynne (Cooper) Hartshorn (Class of ’66), Rowan Radio unearthed what is possibly the earliest remaining piece of audio from the 50-year history of WGLS-FM.
Aired back on May 3, 1965, WGLS-FM featured “Educational Forum”, a show focused on keeping listeners updated on changes and events in education.

Rowan Radio will add five new members into the WGLS-FM Hall of Fame for their outstanding contributions to the station at Rowan Radio’s 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 25 in Rowan University’s Eynon Ballroom.
Dr. Mark Chamberlain, Larry DiBona, Alisa Hogan, Karen Maser, and Dr. Gregory Potter Sr. will comprise the 2014 WGLS-FM Hall of Fame class.
