Rowan Radio Collects Two Communicator Awards

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM recently received two Communicator Awards from the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.

Together: An Audio Documentary on Latino Immigrants in South Jersey collected an Award of Excellence in the competition’s Production category. The award-winning program detailed the personal struggles of Latino immigrants throughout South Jersey.

This is the fifth accolade for the documentary co-produced by Adam Clark and Ralph Quidone. During the past year, Together also earned honors from the Hermes Creative Awards, Broadcast Education Association, Garden State Journalists Association, and Society of Professional Journalists.

Clark and Quidone created the piece in Rowan University’s Radio Production course instructed by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner.

Rowan Rising received an Award of Distinction in the Educational Institution podcasting division. The victorious entry featured an interview with Rowan University professor Dr. Jenny Rich about her work regarding Holocaust and genocide studies.

Dr. Rich’s interview was a part of the Rowan Rising podcast series, which showcased ascending members of the Rowan University community. Hosted by R.J. Tallarida, Vice President of University Advancement, Rowan Rising also won a Hermes Creative Award in May.

The Communicator Awards recognizes excellence in communication in the annual competition sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.

Rowan Radio has won 338 regional and national awards since 1993.
