The Rowan Report Election Night 2020 special won a Platinum Award in the Audio Program category. Hosted by Rowan Radio News Director Katie Francis and Jack Brennan, the station’s news department provided coverage of local elections and the race for the President of the United States throughout election night.

Also, the show examined some of the top issues heading into election season including COVID-19, social injustice, and the legalization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey.

The Social Media Effect earned a Gold Award for Audio Program. Co-producers Alexandra Cann and Rylee Meyer created the feature about the negative impact of social media and how young adults can overcome it.

Together: An Audio Documentary on Latino Immigrants in South Jersey also garnered a Gold Award in the Audio Program category. Adam Clark and Ralph Quidone co-produced the award-winning piece about the personal struggles of Latino immigrants throughout South Jersey.

This is the fourth honor for Together. Previously, Broadcast Education Association, Garden State Journalists Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists recognized the documentary.

Both The Social Media Effect and Together were developed in Rowan University’s Radio Production course instructed by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner.

Rowan Rising earned a Gold Award in the Podcast Episode division. The acclaimed episode highlighted an interview with Rowan University professor Dr. Jenny Rich about her career, family life, and work related to Holocaust and genocide studies.
