Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM won two awards in the annual Garden State Journalists Association awards competition on Wednesday.
Together, a documentary about Latino immigrants in South Jersey, won second place in the Radio Feature category. Created by Adam Clark and Ralph Quidone, the program explores the personal struggles of Latino immigrants throughout the South Jersey area.
Flip The Script Revisited continued its award-winning ways with a third place nod in the Radio Feature category. This documentary looked at the media portrayal of the LGBTQ+ community through analysis from Rowan students and industry experts.
Flip The Script Revisited previously received regional and national recognition in awards competitions. Produced by Mandi Devers, the documentary won first place for Radio Feature in the Society of Professional Journalists regional contest in March. Also, it received a Platinum Award for Audio/Radio Program last May.
Both documentaries were created in conjunction with Rowan University’s Radio Production course instructed by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner.
