Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM earned four Hermes Creative Awards on Tuesday in an annual competition sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Decision 2016 won a Platinum Award in the Radio Program category. The show featured highlights from Rowan Radio’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia; and a look at the 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump through the eyes of Rowan University students.

Produced by Kelly Green, Alyssa Compa, Geneva Gerwitz, and Matt Zawodniak, the Hermes Award victory marks the third win for Decision 2016. It was previously recognized by Broadcast Education Association and the Garden State Journalists Association.

Overshare  – a 30-minute documentary created by Rowan University students Emily Langford, John Rogers, and Alyssa Colangelo – received a Platinum Award in the Radio Program category.

The documentary featured personal stories and analyzed the perils of social media among young adults and their desire to share valuable information in a public setting.

Taking Strides, a look at the career of former Rowan University Football running back Wit Marcelin, grabbed a Gold Award in the Radio Program category. Producers Cody Cronin, Austin Greathouse, and Matthew Gunderson tracked the highs and lows of one of the greatest Rowan athletes of all-time.

Overshare and Taking Strides were both produced in conjunction with Rowan University’s Radio Production course, which is instructed by WGLS-FM Station Manager Derek Jones.

Elsewhere, Matthew Zawodniak garnered a Gold Award in News Reporting for “Bernie Sanders Supporters Still Feeling the Burn.”

The piece examined Bernie Sanders supporters during last July’s Democratic National Convention. Zawodniak spoke with delegates about what’s next for Sanders and his supporters following a primary defeat to Hillary Clinton.

The Hermes Creative Awards annually honors the best in print media, public relations, and electronic media.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won 279 regional and national awards since 1993.
