Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM received two first place awards in the Philadelphia Press Association annual awards competition on Monday.

Matt Kazin (’13) tied for first place in the Radio Feature category for his interview with legendary musician Johnny Mathis. The pair covered the long and winding career of Mathis in an interview that aired last August on Saturday Night at the Oldies.

College Broadcasters Incorporated previously honored Kazin’s work as a student on Saturday Night at the Oldies in 2013.

Meanwhile, The Arc Report, hosted by Lisa Conley and Bill Gordon, won first place for Radio Enterprise Reporting.

Last August, Conley and Gordon of The Arc Gloucester saluted the Rowan University Unified soccer team that won a gold medal for Team New Jersey at the Special Olympics in June 2014 in a special two-part series.

Rowan Unified soccer head coach Gary Baker, along with players Billy Iocona and Jon Pepper, detailed their emotional road to victory at the Special Olympics.

The Philadelphia Press Association recognizes the best in local radio, television, and print journalism.

Winners will be honored at the organization’s awards banquet on Sunday, June 14 in Haddon Heights, New Jersey.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won 256 regional and national awards since 1993.
