The African American Profile Wins Hermes Creative Award

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson with African American Profile host Omarey Williams last January.

A special edition of the African American Profile received a Hermes Creative Award in the organization’s international competition on Friday.

Days after winning an Award of Distinction in The Communicator Awards, the African American Profile earned a Hermes Creative Platinum Award in the competition’s Radio Program category.

The award-winning entry featured host Omarey Williams interviewing Dr. Michael Eric Dyson prior to his speech at Rowan University’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast last January.

Also, the program included interviews with previous event speakers including Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte, and Andrew Young.

Williams, a local civic leader, has hosted the African American Profile since 2008.

The Hermes Creative Awards competition salutes communication professionals from electronic media, public relations, and print media. There were about 6,000 entries from the United States and 22 other countries in the Hermes Creative Awards in this year’s competition.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won 254 regional and national awards since 1993.
