Rowan Radio was recognized in the 2012 Freedom of Speech PSA competition, presented by the National Association of Broadcasters and Broadcast Education Association.

WGLS –FM Production Director Joe Mineo and Operations Manager Allie Volpe earned second place in the Freedom of Speech PSA competition’s radio division.

“Freedom of Speech Means…” was a 30-second public service announcement that utilized numerous voices to illustrate the duo’s spin on the First Amendment. The piece includes originally scored music by Volpe, who played guitar on the award-winning PSA.

Mineo and Volpe will receive a $2,000 prize for their second place finish.

Sponsored by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, the competition honors the best college-based entries promoting Freedom of Speech from radio, television, and interactive multimedia outlets.

WGLS-FM has won 214 national and regional awards since 1993.
