WGLS-FM received a pair of honors in the 2012 New Jersey Chapter Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism Awards competition.
Studio 89.7 grabbed second place in the Radio Enterprise category. Hosted by Rowan University adjunct instructor and radio veteran Paul Perrello, the award-winning entry featured an interview with legendary Philadelphia broadcaster Jerry Blavat.
This is the fourth award for the show with Blavat. Studio 89.7 also earned acknowledgement from the Hermes Awards, Communicator Awards, and the Garden State Journalists Association.
Smoking: Unfiltered won third place in NJSPJ’s Radio Enterprise category. Produced by Christina Maxwell & Phil Blandino, the program examined how nicotine addiction impacts college students.
The Garden State Journalists Association also recognized Smoking: Unfiltered for Best Radio Feature with a third place nod in the organization’s awards competition.
The 30-minute documentary was made in conjunction with WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Derek Jones’s Radio Production class.
The New Jersey Chapter Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism Awards competition includes entries from print, radio, TV, and web outlets throughout the state.
WGLS-FM has won 209 national and regional awards since 1993.
