WGLS-FM wins two Broadcast Education Association awards!

WGLS-FM won two awards in the annual Broadcast Education Association’s 2012 Festival of Media Arts competition.

Loco for Four Loko grabbed first place in the Student Audio division’s Best Educational Program category. Produced by Ryan Spillman, Michael Amato, and Jazmin Hooks, the documentary examined the dangers surrounding the controversial beverage and how it impacted college students across America. The program was a collaborative effort between Rowan Radio and the Radio Production course instructed by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Derek Jones.

WGLS-FM was also recognized in the Student Sports Competition. Rowan junior Rob Cunningham placed second in the Best Radio/TV Sports Event, Play-by-Play Talent category for his call of Rowan University Soccer’s dramatic victory over Richard Stockton College in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.

The award winners will be recognized during BEA’s annual convention in Las Vegas beginning on April 15. Congratulations to all the winning students!
