Wilmington Won’t Let Weather Wash Their Mood

Last night the Blue Crew got a much needed win as they defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 3-1. The Frederick Keys, who already locked up a post-season position, and the Potomac Nationals, currently in place to secure the final spot, both lost.

Wilmington still sits in the basement at 17-26 while nine games behind Frederick and six behind Potomac. However, last night could prove to be the start of another post-season push, so long as the predicted thunderstorms stay away from Frawley Stadium and the Wilmington Riverfront.

In the bottom of the first inning last night, Carlo Testa let a two-run homer rip to right field, bringing Whit Merrifield home with him. In the bottom of the fifth, Nick Van Stratten hit a RBI single on a fly ball to right field, scoring Gerard Hall. That was all the offense Wilmington needed as the Dash could only muster one run in the top of the seventh off a Brady Shoemaker RBI ground ball single. Justin Marks (7-8, 5.2IP, 3H, 8SO, 4.44ERA) earned the win for Wilmington.

Tonight, the series goes on as the Blue Rocks continue to play host to the Dash. First pitch is set for 7:05pm, provided the weather cooperates, and Timothy Melville (8-7, 4.33ERA) takes the mound for Wilmington. Coverage begins at 6:35 with the Rocks Report presented by Wawa. Your host, Adam Dobrowolski, brings you the latest on the Blue Rocks, the Kansas City Royals farm system, and the Carolina League! Only on Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM!
